A South Sudanese Catholic Bishop in Yei has urged South Sudan’s warring parties to respect and observe the agreement on permanent ceasefire.
Bishop Erkulano Ladu Tombe said they welcome the ceasefire agreement signed in Khartoum. However, he expressed disappointment over continued ceasefire violations in many parts of the country.
“People are trying their best to negotiate for peace, but it is a pity to see that some armed groups around us are fighting among themselves and this is not a lie because there are many people now running from one village to another and to the town within the state,” he said.
The church leader urged the warring parties to stop hostilities immediately to allow citizens to move freely.
“This should be the time for happiness because there is a permanent cease fire signed. Open all the roads for the civilians to move from the town to the villages and from the villages to the town,” he said.
