Security authorities in Yei River State have unveiled a plan to provide stable security and protect citizens during the festive season.

During the Christmas and New Year period there is usually an increase in social, cultural and economic activities resulting in an increase in criminal activities.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the state police commissioner, Yuasa Lujang Kamba said measures to maintain law and order for peaceful celebrations in the entire state are in place.

He said a joint force, consisting of forces from the police, national security service, wildlife, fire brigade, prisons and the army are deployed in Yei town and the surrounding areas to conduct patrols.

“We are going to do joint patrols in towns and rural areas. The security control will be under a joint operation unit. We briefed them on their functions and duties while at work,” said Lujang.

The police officer urged members of the public to cooperate with security organs by reporting criminal activities to the relevant security units so that crimes in communities are prevented.

Lujang appealed to the security forces not to harass civilians, but respect them in order to promote mutual understanding and cooperation.

“Citizens may have security information and they need to cooperate with the organized forces so that they all manage security,” he said.

Lujang further said security is calm and normal in the state ahead of the festive season.
