Yei authorities to begin issuing ID cards, passports

Authorities in Yei River State said plans are underway to start issuing nationality cards (IDs) and passports in the state.

Authorities in Yei River State said plans are underway to start issuing nationality cards (IDs) and passports in the state.

Police Commissioner Yoasa Lujang Kamba told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that a team of technicians from Juba had already arrived in Yei town to begin processing the documents soon.

“The team came together with equipment and we are very concerned that Yei is at the border, so we will be holding meetings with the commissioners and chiefs so that foreigners are not allowed to possess  any document,” said Yoasa.

The police commissioner pointed out that the move aims at taking services closer to the people. He noted that the police and immigration officers will scrutinize all beneficiaries before they could obtain documents in the state.

The top police officer warned the public against providing false verification documents.

“The process will start soon because we realized that it is difficult for our people to go from here to Juba,” he said.

“We are urging the commissioners and the chiefs not to accept any bribe to approve documents. These documents are only for South Sudanese nationals,” he stressed.

Over the past years, residents of Yei River State complained about challenges in obtaining national identification cards (IDs) and passports in Juba.
