Authorities in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State have set up a joint security force to protect civilians.
The move comes a week after several civilians complained of robbery activities at gunpoint by criminals.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Amule Felix, the administrator for the defunct Yei River State said the joint force will beef up security and crackdown on the criminals terrorizing civilians.
He said all organized forces were instructed to protect civilians. “We have set up a joint operation patrolling every night to look for people who commit crimes against civilians and the joint operation forces are in place doing their work,” said Amule.
The official, however, appealed to the local residents to cooperate with the joint security forces and the local government by providing information on the criminal activities happening in residential areas.
