Authorities in Yei River County have established an isolation centre where illegal travellers and violators of the new coronavirus measures will be quarantined.
The isolation centre is located in Ronyi payam on the Yei-Kaya road.
Felix Amule, the administrator for the defunct Yei River State, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that although measures to avert unnecessary movements are in place, people are still using porous entry points to illegally enter Yei from neighbouring Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He said the isolation centre will be used to quarantine suspects arrested by security agents for illegally entering South Sudan via Yei.
“People who illegally move will be quarantined and have to be confirmed safe before they are allowed mixing up with their family members in communities because we are located in dangerous areas and border countries with confirmed cases of COVID-19,” said Amule.
He urged the public to avoid illegal travels, warning that violators of the health guidelines would be arrested and arraigned in court.
South Sudan has so far recorded four cases of the new coronavirus.
Key symptoms of the new coronavirus include fever, dry cough and shortness of breath. The virus is spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes and the droplets land in the mouths and noses of another person.
A person can also get infected with coronavirus by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or their eyes.
