Authorities in the Yei municipality of Central Equatoria State have launched the rehabilitation of a 30-kilometer road network linking three residential areas of Yei town into the urban center on Wednesday.

Yei River County director for road maintenance, Anthony Philip Morgan, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the manual road rehabilitation project is supported by the Islamic Relief, a humanitarian NGO.

“We are doing bush clearance, the opening of drainage systems and re-filling of potholes on roads linking Sopiri, Kondeko and Dam residential areas. This is also good because over 300 women and youth who will be staying without jobs will get something to do to earn a living for themselves for the next three months,” he said.

Kenyi Elisa John, a community area chief in Rumoju Boma told Radio Tamazuj that the absence of a good road network for the last several months has created insecurity in the municipality.

“The rehabilitation of roads within residential is very important for us as people living in the community. Having good roads will improve security, ease transportation of sick patients and expecting mothers to health centers, and also connect people from one residential area to another,” he added.
