Yau Yau speaks about new Pibor administration

David Yau Yau spoke to Radio Tamazuj about setting up a new government in the Greater Pibor administrative area.

David Yau Yau spoke to Radio Tamazuj about setting up a new government in the Greater Pibor administrative area.

Yau Yau was appointed chief administrator of Greater Pibor Area on 30 July as part of a peace deal with the South Sudan government following his Cobra Faction rebellion.

Yau Yau said his local government will hire citizens of Pibor currently working for the Jonglei State government, if they leave their posts.

“Jonglei state to us is like our mother state and now even if there is changes people can still work in Jonglei government but as new administration,” he said. “We cannot ask them to leave their jobs in Jonglei State and join the new administration unless their period is over with Jonglei government.”

He added that it would not be fair for the Jonglei State Government to fire Greater Pibor employees simply because of the formation of the new administration.

Yau Yau said the establishment of his administration will happen in the coming days but has been delayed by a customs dispute. He said they have not resolved whether customs at the border with Ethiopia will be controlled by the national government or his own administration.

Yau Yau said his forces will integrate into the national army and that he will not take up arms against the government as before.

He said he will prioritize peace among tribes between Jonglei State and Pibor.
