David Yau Yau, the chief administrator of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, arrived in Pochalla County on Friday to chair a meeting aimed at ending recent violence in the divided county.

The chief administrator was accompanied by King Akwai of the Anyuak Kingdom.

Yau Yau has reportedly ordered that people who started the fight in Pochalla County be brought to book in order to bring peace to the county, according to one source who attended the meeting.

Violence between Anyuak groups in Pochalla County erupted over food distribution last June leaving two dead. More recent fight broke out on 14 July when a group of the King’s Guards were ambushed in Pochalla County. Five people were left dead and 15 others seriously injured.

Pochalla located near the Ethiopian border is inhabited primarily by ethnic Anyuaks, but it forms part of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area in which the ethnic majority are Murles, including Yau Yau himself.
