Yambio County Commissioner Hussein Enoka died early Sunday in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, where he had been seeking treatment.
Dazanga Richard, one of his family members, told Radio Tamazuj that the commissioner died while undergoing treatment in Khartoum.
“We have just received the sad news; everybody is in a desperate situation. Hussein died at around 4 am in Khartoum and now the body has been taken to the mortuary,” he said.
Plans are underway to airlift the remains of the late commissioner from Sudan to South Sudan for burial in Yambio, according to Richard.
Hussein’s cause of death remains unclear.
“The other details will be communicated when we complete the formation of the high committee. We will get back with more details,” Richard said.
Hussein Enoka was appointed Commissioner of Yambio County in Western Equatoria State in February 2021 by President Salva Kiir under the 2018 peace agreement.
The late was also appointed Commissioner of Yambio in April 2015 and served in the position for a year before being removed by the former Gbudue state governor.
He had served in various government positions in Western Equatoria State, most notably in the ministry of information.
