Yambio County Commissioner Hussein Enoka Ibrahim on Tuesday issued an order banning gambling on the grounds that it is increasing immoral activities such as theft, laziness and crimes in the county.
The order number 009/2015 was issued under Article 52 (d) of the Local Government Act 2009 and will be enforced in Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria State.
Enoka mandated the security organs in Yambio County to arrest anyone found gambling in the market, residential areas, streets or anywhere else within Yambio County. He or she will reportedly face imprisonment for not less than three months without pay.
The order takes effect immediately and was announced publicly on the state radio Yambio FM and Anisa FM on Tuesday evening.
