At least one person was killed and two others sustained injuries when two motorcycles collided on Saturday in Yambio of Western Equatoria State, police said.
Traffic Police Director in Yambio Colonel Morris Bakura told Radio Tamazuj that the accident happened at Siro Market in Yambio West.
“On 7th January 2023 at 3 pm, an accident happened on the road going to Siro market. Two motorbikes knocked each other and as a result, one person (rider) died on the spot and the other two broke their legs,” he said.
“The cause is that the one who died instead of using the right side, used the left and collided with another motorbike and died immediately. His name is Malish Kizito age 19 years residing in the Gangara Emilia area of Yambio,” he added.
The police official said the two who were injured in the accident are being treated at the local hospital and that the motorcycles have been detained.
Bakura warned against overloading and overspeeding saying that motorcycles are only allowed to carry one passenger at a time and observe the 50km/h speed limit within the town.
