South Sudanese activist and director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) Edmund Yakani said the new round of talks in Khartoum requires seriousness and commitment of the warring parties to bring peace in South Sudan.
In a statement extended to Radio Tamazuj, Yakani stressed that effective compromises should be made to achieve lasting peace in the country.
”The citizens and the world are fed up of these several sessions of HLRF without tangible results. Majority of the citizens on the streets across the country are expressing disappointments,” he said.
“Frankly, they are saying the political elites are careless about the ongoing suffering due to violence across the country,” he added.
He pointed out that the talks in Khartoum can make significant breakthroughs if the South Sudan parties accept a win-win approach for peace.
CEPO called on the conflicting parties to comply with a 35% quota for women in all instances of responsibilities and representation at the peace talks in Khartoum.
The civil society group called on IGAD, JMEC and Sudan government to allow South Sudan and international media outlets to cover the Khartoum talks without any restriction.
