Many residents of Maban County in Upper Nile have been displaced due to floodwaters that reportedly washed away entire villages in the areas of Bunj, Jamam, Jendrasa and Gismallah, according to health affairs coordinator Mayak Malok.

Coordinator Malok told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday the floods forced nearly 3,000 citizens to desert their homes, saying local citizens incurred heavy losses in terms of properties.

He expressed concern that health conditions of local citizens could deteriorate further if relevant authorities don’t intervene, saying malaria, allergies and diarrhoea as well as other inflammatory diseases have been recorded due to rising floodwaters caused by Yabus stream.

The official called on the government and health organizations to help the needy people as soon as possible.

Last week, Maban County Commissioner Temato Nau expressed concern that the Yabus stream is rising and could submerge Bunj town and other areas in the county.
