The National Democratic Institute (NDI), along with DT Global and supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), launched a three-day planning and networking workshop in Kampala, Uganda, on Monday.

The three-day workshop aims to promote strategic planning and collaboration among youth leaders in Sudan.

The event gathered 56 participants from various regions of Sudan, representing civil society organizations, political bodies, initiatives, networks, and more. Notable attendees included representatives from DT Global Sudan office, USAID, the National Democratic Institute, and media outlets.

Hatim Abdullah, speaking on behalf of the Institute, explained in an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Monday, “This initiative follows extensive consultations with youth last September. With the support of USAID, this workshop marks the beginning of a project that could span over 5 months. It comprises three stages: this workshop, followed by a comprehensive community engagement survey in villages and localities, selection of individuals, and culminating in a comprehensive youth conference.”

He further clarified that the workshop aims to contribute to fostering a future led by youth smoothly.

Meanwhile, Gasim Jasir, representing the National Democratic Institute in Sudan, emphasized in an interview with Radio Tamazuj, “It is time for youth to step into leadership roles, as evidenced by the December revolution’s successes. They have shown their capability to build bridges and overcome obstacles.”

Dickson Omondi, speaking at the opening, expressed optimism about Sudanese youth’s role in driving radical change towards a future that fulfills people’s aspirations, fostering an active and innovative society capable of tackling challenges and overcoming obstacles.

He underscored the importance of drawing lessons from other countries’ experiences similar to Sudan’s and adopting approaches that suit Sudanese circumstances.
