Work has resumed in Nyala North Locality in South Darfur State after a ten-month war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
On Thursday, the leadership of the locality led its administrative staff on a field tour of the El Geneina Park market to assess the situation.
The team led by Yusif Idris Yusif, the locality’s Executive Director, listened to the issues and concerns of citizens on the return to work formula by the locality’s staff.
During the whistle-stop tour, security and pensions topped the citizens’ wish list to the administrators.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Idris said despite the difficult circumstances across the state and the entire country, normalcy had resumed in the locality.
He said the locality would prioritize security and health services to cushion residents from the harsh living conditions.
Idris said his administration carefully listened to the concerns of residents of the locality and would address any security complaints, with an aim of combating crime.
“From today, through the relevant departments, we will carry out daily cleaning of the market, monitor expired foods and goods, and organize the work of street vendors.”
He revealed that some local fees would be levied on services offered and urged members of the public to cooperate with his teams.
Traders in the market welcomed the return of civil service and called for enhanced security patrols in the neighborhoods and markets to end robbery incidents.
A section of traders promised to cooperate with the authorities with regard to payment of the levies to ensure cleanliness in the market.
The return of normalcy in the locality is widely seen as the cause of the current vibrancy in El Geneina parking market.
It is currently the largest market in Nyala, South Darfur State, after the main Nyala market was affected by the raging war between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces since last April last year.
