The commissioner of Wonduruba County in Jubek State has called for assistance to resettle the population of his area.
40,000 people from Wonduruba County are in need of assistance, Samuel said.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, Commissioner Lemi Samuel called on the government and non-governmental organizations to support the resettlement.
Samuel said he is planning to ensure that the population can return home, but there is no shelter, food, or medicine in the area.
‘’My message is mainly to the government to see to it that at least these people are rescued with two options. One, the shelters are very important because the houses have been deserted” Samuel said. Second, “my claim to government and to the NGO is to take this matter seriously to at least rescue the IDPs of Wonduruba in the case of food, the case of shelter (and) medicine’’
‘What are they going to eat? My complaint and demand is to the NGOs to at least recue the situation in case” the IDPs come, Samuel said.
Samuel also said that after the return of First Vice President Riek Machar and the formation of the transitional government of national Unity, he do not expect the people of South Sudan to return to fighting, but rather concentrate in development.
‘’We were waiting for Riek Machar to come. Now that he is with us here, I do not think there will be any problem of fighting one another. We are expecting peace to come, and the IDPs will go back safely. What we want is that there should be not shooting of one another — we need only peace. (Now that Machar) has come, peace will have to prevail, and we go ahead with the development of the country’’ Samuel said.
