The Coalition of Women Politicians in Sudan has delivered aid to the detained women from South Kordofan currently being held in a prison in North Kordofan’s El-Obeid.

Members of the coalition told Radio Tamazuj yesterday from Khartoum that a delegation arrived in El-Obeid this week in order hand over the materials.  The move is reported to be reverberating through the town’s feminist community.

One of the coalition’s members, Ihsan al-Fagiri, told Radio Tamazuj that elements of local security prevented them from meeting the detainees, although they did agree to pass on the goods to the jailed women.

Conditions in el-Obeid prison are reportedly very poor as it lacks many basic services.  Furthermore, most families of the detainees have reported being denied access to their loved ones, prompting fears over their wellbeing.
