The Christian Women Association, a local women's organisation in Yambio town of Gbudue State, has initiated dialogue with the state government in order to address issues affecting women in the state.
The association’s executive director, Modi Innosa, told Radio Tamazuj that the initiative is aimed at opening up communication between women's organizations operating in the state, the state government and members of the state assembly regarding women issues.
Innosa further said women in Western Equatoria have been facing many challenges since the outbreak of war in the country in 2013, pointing out that the challenges facing women include domestic violence and rape cases but the government has not done much to address these issues.
She revealed that they will lobby the state government and members of the state assembly to enact laws that will secure lives of women in the state.
Innosa added that the initiative will go on for the next six months and will include women associations from Anzara, Mundri, Maridi, Ezo and Tombura areas.
