The chairwoman of the South Sudan Women’s Association arrived to Rumbek last week to urge the formation of radio listening clubs among women and young women in Lakes state.
Speaking upon her arrival in the state capital Rumbek, the Minister of Gender and Social Development, Ezekiel Thiang Mangar appreciated Sarah Awiel Ajith for her efforts to speed up with the formation of listening clubs.
Mangar pointed out that Lakes State is facing a lot of problems of early child marriages. He said it is necessary to build strong relationships and cooperation between Juba and Lakes State in term of women’s support and other developmental programs in order to eradicate illiteracy and child marriage.
The head of the women’s association, Sarah Awiel Ajith urged women in Lakes State to talk to people stop early child marriages in a polite manner within the community.
She said she will form two groups, first the women’s group and second the young men and young women’s group and the composition of each group will be determined by the members of the Lakes State Women’s Association.
Ajith revealed that the association is supported by some NGOs and especially UNESCO.
