Women's Forum to launch initiative for documentation of rape cases during war

The coordinator of the South Sudanese Women's Forum, Betty Sunday said on Thursday her organization will launch an initiative to document rape cases that occurred during the war in collaboration with Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) and South Sudan Women Law Society.

She said the initiative aims to create awareness among women about the importance of reporting rape cases when they happen.

“The initiative we are going to launch is aiming at documenting the gender-based violence because we are facing many challenges, for example, those who have been raped are finding it very difficult to speak about it. We want the women to speak about it,” said Betty.

She added that many women and children were victims of rape but fear to talk about it.

Betty stressed that women should know that a court will be established during the transitional period to prosecute all who committed crimes against women.

She pointed that the initiative will cover all states of South Sudan especially Bentiu and Western Equatoria where a big number of rape cases were reported.
