Custom Police officer Stephen Khamis was shot in Munuki on Tuesday night by an unknown gunman and later died in hospital, according to witnesses. He had served as coach of the Custom Women's football club.

Khamis was a 1st lieutenant in the Customs Administration. He was committed to developing women's football in Juba and had been coaching for many years.

The police officer was shot with six bullets near St Kazito bus station just in front of his house.

The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. He was rushed to Juba Teaching Hospital where he later died of injuries at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday. “This is a great loss for us,” one relative said.
