A women leader in Landili County of South Sudan’s Maridi State has called for implementation of the revitalized peace agreement to enhance the development of females in the country.
Maria Ezawa made the appeal during a recent visit to the county by the state governor, Africano Mande.
She said the civil war, which broke out in 2013, has hindered development activities in Landili County.
Ezawa said lack of a proper education system; water shortages and poor health facilities have led to maternal mortality among women in the area.
She, however, appreciated the state government for maintaining peace and stability, despite the numerous challenges it faces.
The South Sudan parties signed a peace deal in September 2018 which was meant to culminate in a unity government on 12 May.
However critical issues such as the creation of a unified army are yet to be implemented with the formation of the transitional government has been delayed another six months.
