Women in Aweil town of South Sudan’s Aweil State on Tuesday started a clean-up campaign to raise awareness of littering within the area.
The clean-up campaign launched by more than 200 women covered areas around the council of ministers, health ministry, Aweil state legislative assembly and state house road. Also covered were Hai Salam, Zera, Nhomlaau, Hai Toch and War Rak residential areas.
The exercise came years after the town was declared dirty.
Several women interviewed by Radio Tamazuj during the campaign expressed their commitment to address the garbage menace in the town.
Suzan Abuk Ruoch, 27, vowed to continue with the campaign. She encouraged other women to join them to ensure the town of Aweil attracts more foreign visitors.
