The chairperson of the women’s parliamentary caucus in the South Sudanese town of Wau called on the warring parties to stop the suffering of women in the country who have lost their husbands and relatives.
Florencia Fatima Abina said women in Wau are still living in fear and panic because their future is dark due to the current insecurity. Florencia was speaking at an event organized by the Crisis Management Initiative to collect views of marginalized groups including women and young people in Western Bahr el Ghazal about the implementation of the peace agreement.
Florencia said the organizers of the event should present women’s demands to the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission.
Another member of the women’s caucus, Amilia Aluel, said that the main reason why conflicts persist in South Sudan is that perpetrators of crimes are not prosecuted.
Aluel added that the insecurity in the country also results in hunger.
She called on Riek Machar to come back home for the implementation of the peace agreement.
