The Women Union chairperson in South Sudan’s Tambura State, Hipaimwe Victoria has urged men and women in the country to be united and support one another.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj on International Women’s Day, Hipoimwe said it is meaningless for people to segregate each other.
“The significance of Women’s Day is a day that women come together with one voice and rights given to them to participate in all levels of the government and organizations,” she said Friday.
Hipaimwe urged women to unite and reflect on their steps for progress.
“This is a day officially made for women to come out of the kitchen and equally participate in every opportunity in the nation,” she said.
The official further appealed to men to encourage women and young girls to go back to school and participate in decision making.
“Men should leave women to participate in decision making; they should also recognize their ideas in decision making,” she stressed.
According to Hipaimwe, the Women Union institution also plays a bigger role in building the capacities of women at the state level.
"We normally call for partners to build the capacity of some of our women, economically, socially and politically so that they better understand their rights as being a woman in public and community”.
International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights.
