A group of women in the disputed region of Abyei urged authorities to set up health facilities in remote areas to increase the population’s access to health care services.
The appeal follows numerous complaints from women who often travel for long distances to access medical facilities mainly based in towns.
Nyanbulu Nyok, a resident of Abyei, told Abyei Today programme on Friday that pregnant mothers in villages need to be guided by doctors during pregnancy. She pointed out that women in Amiet County, for instance, have to travel for long distances to access medical services.
Makkah Dut, a midwife at Agok hospital, urged pregnant women to regularly access antenatal services to avoid any complications.
For his part, Kon Thon, the Acting Director General for health in Abyei area, said midwives would be deployed to remote health facilities.
He revealed that they are currently engaged in consultations with health sector partners to send medical personnel to remote areas.
