About 15 women have been arrested by police authorities in the town of Aweil after they started a fight at a water point on Tuesday, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Santino Mayuat Ngong, an MP representing Maper-Akot area in the state parliament, said the arrested women fought over scarcity of water at the water point.
The lawmaker said lack of boreholes has affected his community in the area, pointing out that the locals need additional hand pumps to be installed in the area.
Ngong further said he had complained about the shortage of water to the state minister of water resources who promised to install two hand pumps in Maper-Chuei and Rum-Akudi areas respectively.
The state lawmaker revealed that some of the arrested women have been released pending trial.
