A woman was killed, a child critically injured while another woman abducted in a Monday night attack carried out by an armed youth group in Pochalla County of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).
Owety Olung, the acting county commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred when the armed youth group attacked a family in Akoye Payam headquarters, Obudi town.
“Those people were attacked while in their house by a group of about eight Murle youth last night at 8 pm. A woman called Apath Obono, 26, and her 6-year-old son Karjay Lero were injured while her niece Odolla Odangi, 18, was abducted,” he said.
The local official said the injured are yet to be evacuated to a health facility for medical attention.
“Obudi is cut off from the Pochalla town by roads because it is muddy. So, we sent some to go and bring the child on a stretcher to the town for treatment,” he said.
Charles Wello Onyony, an area lawmaker in the national legislative assembly, also confirmed the attack and called on the GPAA authorities to apprehend the culprits.
“The woman killed and the abducted one were attacked while they were eating. These attacks have been occurring and we have reporting them but nothing is done. So, we are calling on GPAA authorities to intervene by stopping these yputh,” he said.
For his part, John Abulla, the acting GPAA chief administrator, said they will investigate the incident.
