A woman has been killed and an aid worker wounded when gunmen attacked a vehicle belonging to an international NGO in Jonglei State on Monday, a local official said.

Peter Mabil, acting secretary general of the former Bieh state, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that humanitarian workers from the British relief agency Tearfund were ambushed along the Yuai-Pieri road in Uror County.

“A vehicle belonging to Tearfund was attacked between Yuai and Pieri areas. A lady who was on the car died in the attack and the driver sustained injuries. Three people including the driver escaped and reported to Pieri area on Tuesday,” Mabil explained.

Mabil said no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Attacks against aid workers and aid operations have been a common occurrence since the conflict broke out in December 2013.

At least 115 aid workers – most of them South Sudanese – have been killed since the start of the conflict in 2013.
