Police in Magwi county of Eastern Equatoria State is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 47-year-old man who was chopped to death by his wife last Saturday.
Magwi county chief inspector of Police Major Simon Dhieu Deng told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the 37-year-old woman identified as Mary Akongo is in police custody.
He said the woman committed the heinous act on Saturday at Laguru residential area following a domestic quarrel.
According to the police inspector, the deceased was an SPLA-IO soldier identified as James Nunu.
“The I-O soldier was not at the cantonment but was with his other wife in Nimule. The day he came, he fought with the wife over family issues and even their fighting had stopped and he left the house. When he came out of the house, the woman followed him with an axe and without his knowledge hit him on the neck to death.” he explained.
Dhieu said investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be arraigned in court.
