A woman and her 6-month-old baby were killed and a girl abducted in an attack in Nyirol County in Jonglei State on Wednesday, local officials and the police said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Nyirol County Commissioner James Bol Makuey said the incident occurred when the attackers raided Tut Payam on Wednesday morning.
“What happened Wednesday at 8 am was that criminals from Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) attacked Dualjany village in Tut Payam killing a woman, and her six-month-old baby and abducted a girl while three other people were injured,” he said.
The local official pointed out the injured were being treated at a facility in the county headquarters, Langkien town, and also called on the GPAA government o recall their youth launching attacks in parts of Jonglei State.
Both Jal, the county information director, and Brig. Gen. John Deng, the county police inspector, also confirmed the killing and abduction and said residents are living in fear of imminent attacks.
“The incident is true. A mother and her baby were killed and another child was abducted while the injured ones have been transferred to Langkien for medication,” Brig. Gen. Deng said. “Also, on Thursday, a group of locals was waylaid moving from Cwil Payam to Langkien. A girl was killed and five children were abducted and another person was injured and is now with us in Langkien.”
