Authorities in Warrap State have intensified security patrol in Tonj town following the death of a wildlife officer last week, police said.

David Bol, a crime police officer in Tonj town, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that First Lieutenant Kachthiek Aguer Ngong was killed near Tonj airstrip while trying to rescue stolen animals from armed robbers.

“On March 9, an officer called Kactheik Aguer Ngong was killed in his house at about 2:00 am. As the criminals were passing with looted cattle and goats, he decided to move out of his home and fired at the criminals, but they shot him dead,” he said.

Bol condemned the incident and assured the public that security would be beefed up to protect the lives and properties of civilians. He pointed out that although the culprits have not yet been arrested, investigations would continue to ensure they face justice.

The police officer cautioned against movements at night and encouraged the locals to call police emergency lines when attacked.
