Wildlife authorities in South Sudan’s Torit State have issued a local order for dogs to be killed across the state.
The move comes after the numbers of dog bites increased.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, Deputy Director General for Wildlife Service Paulino Oliha Diromoi said seven people were mauled and killed by rabid dogs over the last four months, prompting them to call for culling of dogs.
“We have registered more than seven cases of people who died of dog bites and this is what prompted us to issue an order for killing of dogs,” he said.
He pointed out that about 100 dogs have been killed in the town of Torit.
The official complained about lack of transport and fuel to dispose dead dogs in the area.
