Wildlife conservation authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal say that they have confiscated large quantities of meat of wild animals at Aweil markets last week.

However, the authorities say that a key suspect has escaped leaving behind meats and materials used in poaching. Northern Bahr el Ghazal Wildlife Conservation Chief Major General Emilio Aleu Wol warned the poachers to scale down their activities, adding that days ago they have arrested many hunters and now they face trial at Aweil Criminal Court.

“We have seized wild meat yesterday but the criminal ran away leaving his bicycle. We found the meat was mixed with cow and pig meat. We are still searching for him and he will be arrested,” said Emilio.

“Those criminals are even killing cows in the forest and bring the meat to sell it in the town. There were some criminals were selling wild meat whom we have arrested earlier – they are still under investigation and they will be taken to the court. We have warned them many times that everyone who caught selling wild meat will be arrested any handed to the police,” he said.
