An extensive wildfire has forced families to leave their homes in parts of Nzara County in Western Equatoria State on Sunday, with one person killed in the blaze.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the county paramount chief, Ramadan John said wildfire that originated from the bush destroyed about 500 houses in Nazara, Mungodi and Nambazia villages in Nzara County, leaving many families homeless.
He appealed to the government and humanitarian organizations to intervene and assist the affected villagers, saying the fire incident has left the displaced with no food or shelter.
Ramadan urged local residents to clear their surroundings during the dry season.
The fire had been contained and Western Equatoria State authorities have not commented on the incident.
