Wild animals create havoc in Jonglei

Wild animals are creating fear among residents in Twic East county of Jonglei state, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Dau Akuei Jurkuch, Twic East commissioner, said there is fear that animals will destroy citizens crops.

Jurkuch stated that there are dozens of lions, elephants and other wild animals in the area.

“We have sent military reinforcement to go and protect the people from wild animals in the area” Jurkuch said.

Typically, Twic East receives dozens of wild animals migrating from the proposed Boma state, who usually leave during the rainy season. This year, the animals have not left.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Wildlife conservation, Jemma Nunu Kumba vowed to prosecute those who hunt wild animals.
