The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated a consignment of assorted items to help the COVID-19 taskforce in Maridi County of Western Equatoria State fight the pandemic.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Maridi Taskforce Spokesperson Phillip Ngaria said the donation included hand sanitizers, liquid soap, thermometers, face masks and awareness materials, among other items.
He said the county taskforce lacks funds to run COVID-19 activities.
According to the local official, implementing partners are currently relying on the little money from the Ebola project to facilitate the program.
“We have not received any fund to run the program and this is a challenge. Since we no longer have a health ministry, our reporting has to pass through the state and national levels,” Ngaria explained.
He appealed to the general public to adhere to the WHO and Healthy ministry guidelines for prevention of the novel coronavirus.
South Sudan has so far recorded four cases of coronavirus.
Key symptoms of the new coronavirus include fever, dry cough and shortness of breath. The virus is spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes and the droplets land in the mouths and noses of another person.
A person can also get infected with coronavirus by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or their eyes.
