Sudan’s government expects the Al-Rawat oilfield in White Nile State to begin production next year following the drilling of test wells, according to state media reports.
Minister of Oil and Gas Mohammed Zayed Awad announced this after visiting the oilfield (block 25) earlier this month together with Al-Rawat company officials and representatives of the partners.
Previously it has been reported that the Al-Rawat company is consortium of the government-owned Sudapet (70 percent), Express Petroleum & Gas Ltd Nigeria (15 percent) and another Nigerian company MISANA (15 percent).
State media report that the oil minister received a sample of oil produced from the test wells and he was pleased with efforts exerted by the company and “the modern system of administration.”
The Rawat field is located only about 60 km from Sudan’s oil export pipeline.
