A group of lawyers in Sudan’s White Nile State will form a defense team for teacher Mashair Abdurrahman who threw a shoe at the State Governor Yusuf El Shambali during a public rally in Kosti last week.
The governor reportedly opened a case against Mashair, who is also NCP Secretary of Thought and Culture, for causing inconvenience to the higher authority. The Education Director then suspended Mashair from work.
Speaking to El Jareeda newspaper in Khartoum on Sunday, Mashair said she was given a letter of suspension although the director was fully aware that the issue had nothing to do with the Ministry of Education.
Mashair considered the decision “politically motivated” and called on the presidency to intervene. She alleged that the governor provoked her with eye contacts after she had interrupted his speech.
The teacher advised the governor not to boast and tell lies in front of political leaders about his development achievements in the state.
Mashair also accused the Education Director of suspending her without the knowledge of the Education Ministry.
She disclosed that she received calls from several renowned lawyers who expressed their readiness to form a legal body to defend her.
