WFP reaching areas in S Sudan not accessed for months

The World Food Programme and other agencies are bringing food and goods to areas of South Sudan which have not received assistance for many months.

WFP along UNICEF, IOM, and other groups delivered food, medicine, and other items to populations in Koch county of Unity state which was cut off from aid since May due to fighting. The groups visited Bauw and Koch towns in the county.

The food aid organization also visited parts of eastern Upper Nile to register people for food aid. Locals say areas of Malow, Ulang, and Doma have not received food handouts since last year, local sources said.

People in the area said they appreciated the leadership of local governor Duer Tut Duer and WFP for registering people to receive food.

Elder Nyantut Gatluak, who witnessed the registration at Ngueny area of Malow, said civilians appreciated Duer for allowing the registration to take place.

The traditional leader also expressed appreciation to WFP for helping displaced persons.

Executive Chief Chuol Dothoal and other traditional chiefs last month recommended WFP should resume services to the community.

They called upon WFP to register people for food aid in other areas as well.
