Aviation authorities in Bor, the administrative headquarters of Jonglei state, have confirmed a cargo plane hired by WFP crashed while attempting to land at the airport. None of the crew members on board were hurt.

All the three crew members survived, according to several eyewitness accounts. Nobody was hurt on the ground too. Civilian Aviation authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, which remains unclear. Several sources claimed the plane had difficulties in landing after the wheels allegedly failed to come, forcing it to land on a grassy patch next to the runway.

Ajak Bior, an eyewitness when the plane crashed, said he was at the airport waiting another to Juba.

“The plane was coming and suddenly it became clear it was unable to land. The wheels were not out and I therefore told a friend to be careful because it is strange that a plane come close to the ground without releasing the wheels.”

“Before completing talking to a friend, it crashed and the friend told so you were right. How you did you know, he asked me,” said Ajak from the airport.
