Western Nile governor plans to establish coordination office in Malakal

The appointed governor of South Sudan’s proposed Western Nile state, William Othon, said he plans to establish a coordination office in Malakal town in the coming days.

The appointed governor of South Sudan’s proposed Western Nile state, William Othon, said he plans to establish a coordination office in Malakal town in the coming days.

Othon told Radio Tamazuj the coordination office will be open in Malakal town following improvements in the security situation in the state.

He pointed out that there are no any physical infrastructures in the new Western Nile state which forced them to run the government activities from Malakal town.

According to Salva Kiir’s 28 states order, Malakal is part of Eastern Nile state. Many members of the Shilluk community, which lives in parts of the east and west bank of the Nile river, have rejected the boundaries.

The governor revealed that public servants and workers have received their salaries in Manyo county and the Juba-based coordination office is registering names of state government employees from Fashoda and Panyikang counties who are in Juba.

Othon stressed that he is not responsible of Fashoda and Panyikang counties until now.

“We are just registering the names of the employees who are in Juba and we don’t have the capacity to reach up to the two counties because they are out of our responsibilities at the moment,” he said.
