Western Lakes suspected gunmen kill 4 in Gok

At least four people have been killed in Gok state by gunmen suspected to have come from neigbouring western Lakes state, renewing tension less a week after two state governors accompanied by the national members of parliament visited disputed area.

The commissioner of Abiriu county in Gok state, Bol Madok Dhuol told Radio Tamazuj that four people were killed in his county by suspected armed youths from Western Lakes state on Friday this week at 6:25 PM. Commissioner Bol claimed that the attackers came in a very big number carrying heavy weapons and fired bullets on the innocent people, killing four on spot.

Others, he said, survived the attack.  He did not say how many were wounded.  The official also did not say the reason for attack was carried out in the area by armed youth. He added that this is the fourth attack carried out by western Lakes state youth. Bol called on western Lakes state government to control his people so as to pave ways for development.

He paid condolences to families of the victims and urged them not to take any revenge as the state government is trying to handle the issue by apprehending and taking suspects to court for trail.  Western Lakes Information minister Daniel Dut Makuet said that his government was not fully aware of that attack on Gok state’s people. He said they were in a meeting with the State Governor Abraham Makoi Bol for the whole day in the state capital Rumbek.
