Two lawmakers from South Sudan’s Western Lake State called on President Kiir declare a state of emergency after the inter-communal fighting resumed on Friday.

"As people representatives, we will be left with nobody to represent in this Country unless your Excellency quickly and decisively act," wrote MPs Akol Paul Kordit and Daniel Dhieu Matuet in a letter to President Kiir seen by Radio Tamazuj on Friday.

The two legislators asked President Kiir to declare the state of emergency in Western Lakes and Gok State and to immediately deploy security forces to carry out a disarmament campaign.

They also called for a peace conference involving all stakeholders in Rumbek and that the pending court cases related to killings in Western Lakes State should be resolved.
