The governor of South Sudan’s Western Lakes State has admitted that the people of his state are suffering from deteriorating living conditions amid reports of deaths due to hunger.
Governor Matur Chut Dhuol told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that he has received reports about the death of some citizens due to hunger in the state.
Chut further said this year’s poor rains have also contributed to the increased suffering of the population.
The official explained that the prices of basic food commodities have soared at the market, making it difficult for the people of the state to meet their daily needs. He pointed out that a sack of sorghum is now sold at 14,000 SSP.
