South Sudanese forces under the overall command of General Paul Malong disarmed bodyguards of Western Equatoria Governor Joseph Bakosoro last night and arrested the governor at his residence in Gudele, Juba.
The move comes just a day after Bakosoro was pulled off a flight from Juba to Yambio by security personnel and shortly after the president issued a decree claiming to remove him from office.
Relatives of the governor told Radio Tamazuj that SPLA military police arrived at Bakosoro’s residence in Gudele last night and disarmed his bodyguards.
The soldiers then took the governor away. As of Monday morning his whereabouts is unknown.
