Western Bahr el-Ghazal State traffic police have launched a joint crackdown targeting motorists without proper documents.

The operation comprising the military and the traffic police, the national security and civil representatives, started this week and will last for one month.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Western Bahr el-Ghazal Police Spokesperson Capt. John Ring Chol said the move was an implementation of the directive by the state security committee.

“The operation is targeting the unlicensed vehicles, or those with expired ones. It is a joint operation that involves all the security organs and civilian representatives,” said Chol.

He disclosed that a number of unlicensed vehicles had already been impounded and their owners were awaited to claim them with proper documents.

The traffic police, he said further, will not tolerate the vehicle owners not following the legal procedures.

“We are implementing the law and anyone who fails to come on time for the documentation, will have to pay the price. There are so many people blaming the economic conditions, but as police, we are implementing this law,” he said.

Chol noted that matters got more complicated when vehicles without licenses were involved in road accidents.

He urged motorists to refrain from speeding and the pedestrians to be cautious on the roads, particularly during the Christmas holidays.
