Members of Western Bahr el-Ghazal State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday passed Governor Sarah Cleto’s Policy Statement conditionally, a month after it was rejected by the lawmakers.

Last month, MPs declined to pass the Policy Statement asking the Governor to address the challenges facing the state. The members raised concerns about the details on the local revenue collection and their use in the policy. They emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the management of local revenues.

The Governor was unable to directly respond to the concerns, saying she acknowledged the importance of their remarks and assured the House that the Executive would provide detailed information through the ministers.

Addressing the media after the second presentation on Wednesday at the state assembly, the chairperson of the Information Committee, Simon Hagalla, said the MPs reiterated their commitment to addressing the welfare of the residents, the nature of feeder roads, the absence of power at the Wau hospital, the health situation at all government health facilities and education.

Hagalla urged the state residents to remain patient as the assembly was also waiting to see the policy statements from the ministers for comparison.

The State MPs had averred that the Policy Statement the Governor tabled contained no achievement, while offering more challenges instead of focusing on delivering services and new developments.
