West Kordofan citizens reject disarmament campaign

Some local residents in Sudan’s West Kordofan State said they are not in support of the on-going disarmament exercise by the Sudanese government, saying they will be left vulnerable to attacks from across the border.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, several residents accused the government of failing to provide security to all communities living along the border.

Some of them said they will only hand over their guns once the government assures them that they will provide security and take care of their welfare, saying sometime they are forced to cross the border to neighbouring South Sudan to graze their livestock.

In Al-Fula town, members of Jubarat tribe handed over 450 firearms including to the high committee in a ceremony witnessed by the Jubarat Paramount Chief Ramadan Noor and Governor Abulgasim Al-Amin Baraka.
