The Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER), in cooperation with the Mahawir organization, concluded the Pink October campaign to create awareness about breast cancer in El Geneina, the capital of Sudan’s West Darfur state, on Friday.
Doctor Wael Mohammed Al-Hafiz, director of the network, told Radio Tamazuj that the campaign aimed to raise awareness of the importance of early screening for breast cancer, identifying its causes and options that reduce the risk of infection.
El Hafiz stated that the campaign targeted all women and girls of reproductive age, from 18-45 years of age, and men, and awareness was provided in all neighborhoods, centers, clubs, and gathering places.
The month of October has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month globally, where many campaigns and events are held that share the goal of trying to limit the spread of the disease, providing the necessary support to raise awareness about breast cancer, and urging the required tests and early treatment for it.
Wael added that the closing ceremony was attended by all organizations present in the state in the presence of the governor of West Darfur State, Al-Tijani Al-Taher Karshoum, and that the celebration was accompanied by an exhibition, cultural presentations, and bazaars.
He pointed out that the war did not prevent them from performing their role towards the state and its people.
Ayoub, Director of the Mahawir Organization, said: “Due to the importance of humanitarian and volunteer work in conflict areas, Mahawir cooperated with Y-PEER in implementing the campaign and spreading awareness.”
He called on all women to seek early detection through mobile clinics and designated centers to ensure their safety and the safety of their children.
Ayoub appealed to the Ministry of Health to cooperate and reach all members of society and called upon all the people of West Darfur State, inside and outside, to help stabilize El Geneina and ensure the continuation of life and hope.
